Spotlighting all four senior centers of Senior Services, Inc. of Wichita
In February 2012 a new and exciting publication "The Compass" will be unveiled. This newsletter will combine the events offered at all four senior centers operated by Senior Services, Inc. into one handy edition. Along with information about each center, participants will also learn about other services offer by the organization. The new publication is larger, professional and printed in color. ACCREDITATION UPDATE
National Accreditation for the Senior Centers of Senior Services, Inc. of Wichita is nearly complete! Accreditation was awarded to the Downtown and Linwood Senior Centers with accreditation expected soon for Northeast and Orchard Park. This prestigious honor is awarded to qualifying senior centers all over the United States through NISC (the National Institute of Senior Centers) and is a directive from NCOA (National Council on Aging). SENIOR MENTOR PROGRAM:
Senior Services, Inc. has partnered with Child Start, Inc. to form the Senior Mentor Program. The program operates for young mothers (age 14 to 21) who are pregnant or have children enrolled in the Early Head Start Program. These teen mothers are coupled with a mentor age 55 and older who provide companionship and mentoring. WHAT IS SENIOR SERVICES, INC.
Senior Services, Inc. of Wichita is a nonprofit organization. It is dedicated to offering innovative, effective programs that allow older adults and their families to lead quality lives and to continue to make positive contributions to the community.

Since 1968, Senior Services has helped older people to live independently and productively. We recognize that most people want to stay in their own homes and neighborhoods as they grow older - to be in familiar surroundings near family and friends. We know that people - both young and old - live happier, healthier lives when they are able to remain active members of their communities.

To that end, the agency provides advocacy, information and services to help seniors, their families, friends and everyone in the community who cares about older adults and the issues that face them.
