The Roving Pantry is a grocery shopping and delivery service that helps homebound seniors who are able to prepare meals on their own to remain independent and in their own homes. It also offers peace of mind to friends and family members concerned about a senior’s access to fresh food. Clients call in their orders, then the Roving Pantry staff shops for the orders at a local grocery and delivers to clients. Clients pay for the groceries upon delivery with cash, check or Vision Card.
Who
is eligible?
Roving Pantry delivery service is available only to Sedgwick County residents over age 60 who cannot shop for themselves and have no one else to shop for them. Clients must be homebound, either permanently or temporarily. Roving Pantry service can be particularly helpful for older people recovering from surgery or illness and who cannot venture out of their homes until recovery is complete.
Application and eligibility screening can usually be completed over the phone, and service can usually start within a week of application. If determined eligible, the applicant can place an order on the next scheduled order day. Deliveries are scheduled according to address.
Who pays for Roving Pantry?
Clients must pay the cost of their groceries upon delivery. Administration of the program and delivery costs are partially funded by Sedgwick County and United Way of the Plains. The program relies on private donations and voluntary client contributions for the remainder of its operating budget. To donate, please click on HOW TO HELP.
